On-campus housing availability differs by school and institutional mission. Traditional university campuses typically provide ample on-campus student housing - even for graduate students with families. For-profit adult schools rarely provide student housing.
Advantages of living on-campus:
- School access: you can easily walk to classes, libraries, computer labs, cafeterias. No need for a parking permit or searching for parking.
- Social life. Living in a dorm allows for easily making new friends and partaking in social events.
Simple life: no issues with bills, rent, etc.
Disadvantages of living on-campus:
- Reduced privacy: living in a dorm comes with little true privacy because most facilities are shared. You can become the victim of rude behavior by others.
- Limited space: at most colleges, dorm rooms are very small, forcing you to limit what you bring to school.
- Possible negative impact on your academic performance due to excesses in social life.
