Florida Technical College was founded in 1982 to provide post-secondary training in specialized business fields. FTC offers both associate degree and diploma programs in today's fastest growing occupations, such as medical assistant, business, paralegal studies, medical administrative assistant, network administration, programming, and computer drafting and design.

FTC has added new locations and programs to meet the changing needs of the Florida community. The Orlando main campus was first opened in 1982. The Lakeland branch was founded in 1990 and the DeLand campus followed in 1997.

Florida Technical College programs are exciting and dynamic, evolving over the years to meet the needs of students and the job marketplace. Business and Management Technology and Electronics/Computer Technology degrees were first offered in 1984, followed by the Computer Drafting and Design degree in 1986. Medical Administrative Assistant and Network Administration/Programming degrees, and Network Administration and C++/JAVA Programming diplomas were added to the curriculum in 1996. Network Administration/Hardware was offered in 2001, Web Site and Graphic Design in 2002. Medical Assistant was offered in 2003, and Paralegal Studies was added in 2005.

Accreditation
Florida Technical College is a Junior College accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award Associates of Science degrees and academic diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education. Its accreditation of degree-granting institutions also is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
